Yesterday, when I was busy not blogging, I happened to come across Morningstar Farms "Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Biscuit". For those of you unfamiliar with Morningstar Farms, it's a vegetarian brand, so the "sausage" isn't actually sausage. When trying new things, I normally google them for reviews, but I couldn't find any, so I'll write my own!
I've been a vegetarian for years, but even before that, I never really cared much for sausage. That being said, I found this product surprisingly satisfying! Each biscuit is 270 calories and 8 grams of fat. According to the package, that's "65% less fat than the leading meat containing sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich".
As you can see, the list of ingredients is extensive. It's certainly not natural or organic, but it's Morningstar Farms (which is owned by Kellogg's, by the way), so that is to be expected. It's clearly heavily processed, and not the most healthy thing, but it'll do.
I popped it in the microwave for a convenient 55 seconds and it came out fine. Not overdone/hard, and not cold in the middle. Just right. The first bite was nearly all biscuit, but the succeeding bites were a pleasant mixture of all contents.
Okay, so that might not look appetizing, but I figured people may want to see what the inside looks like. After I finished eating it, I felt like another one. It's hard to describe the taste, but yeah, it was good.
Overall, I'd give this product 4.5 out of 5 stars. I must deduct half a star for the unhealthiness, but it tasted great. I'd recommend this if you're a lacto-ovo vegetarian, or if you just want to try something new and quick.
Doesn't look appetizing? It looks kind of delicious, in a weird way :3 Something like a hot meat bun, for vegetarians?
ReplyDelete270 calories isn't bad at all, but 4.5g of sat. fat is a bit hefty for a small breakfast.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Im a carnivore, you lost me at meatless.

I hope they taste as good as you say, because it kind of looks like vom in the middle XD
ReplyDeleteOver here in the uk we only get 'healthy' vegetarian food, so in otherwords afwul attempts at creating meat dishes with mushroom protein.
It seems the vom biscuit is the lesser of two evils in this instance!
Awesome review though dude, enjoy the rest of the box.
they look pretty good to me, might have to give them a shot!

ReplyDeleteYou dirty bulking brha?
ReplyDeleteNice review, this looks like something I can heat up and eat on the way to work. Do you have any healthier alternatives though? I wake up pretty early and never feel like cooking, but the cafeteria food at work is really starting to fatten me up...
ReplyDelete600 milligrams of salt, WOW that is almost half of the one's daily intake. Sill I'm gonna have to at least try them cause that looks like a good quick meal before starting off the day.

that actually looks really tasty for something that doesn't have meat in it. i might have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI hate all these blogs about food, I'm hungry now...
ReplyDeleteOh lacto-ovo vegetarianism. So complicated.
ReplyDeleteI went vegan for a month because I thought it was an admirable lifestyle..yeah that didn't work out too well for me.

ReplyDeleteI might try one of these. I can smell it already
ReplyDeleteThat's the brand I eat, I'm no vegan, or vegetarian though, I just like variety
ReplyDeleteI don't really like that vegetarian stuff. I've yet to come across something made specifically for vegetarians that was appetizing in comparison to its meaty counterpart.

That looks pretty good actually. I'll have to remember that one next time I gotsa veggie girlfriend.
ReplyDelete"65% less fat than the leading meat containing sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich"? Lol. Being better than the leading meat-containing sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich is sort of like being better than all the other retards in the special olypics.
ReplyDeletenice. check out tofuti (sp?) it's a dessert that's made from tofu instead of milk. it's actually really good. I normally hate health-food stuff, but this I liked. it's not a vegetarian thing, but I figured it was up your alley
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's tough to find good veggie microwavables.
