Meeting people from the Internets

Hello blog buddies, I don't know what to blog about (again), so I apologize for that. This post lacks content, and I'm looking for feedback. That isn't really fair; I'm aware (I rhymed!).

I can't say I have any interesting stories, as in internet dates or things like that. I've met people from craigslist on multiple occasions, but it was to trade/buy items. It kind of scares me a little, but that's more my social anxiety than thinking they're going to stab me or rape me.

Have you ever met someone from the internet? Does it scare you? How old were you? Why? What happened? What was it like? These questions really don't matter, just talk about your experiences (or lack thereof). Feel free to go into as much detail as you'd like in the comments.

  1. I met my current and last girlfriends online. Not from a dating site, randomly on a message board.

Anyway... yea, I'm pretty ashamed of it I guess. We keep it a secret actually, we tell people we met in person. Living a lie sucks, oh well. I know it's weird from a societal perspective, but I like meeting people online. I feel like you get to know "the real them" beforehand, and don't have to dig it out of them.

    Or I'm just weird. holler!

Just like you, I've only met internet people whilst buying/selling stuff. Went good. :D

  5. I've met a fair number of people from the internet and it's always gone well.
At least online you get to chat to people and get to know them before you meet - as opposed to just hooking up in a bar (normally when drunk)...so actually it is probably safer

  8. I've never met anybody from the internet but I've never had a reason to. I wouldn't have any issue with meeting up with people I met on the internet but because of my location its reasonably unlikely. I live in a small town in a semi-rural area of Australia about 200km from a big city so the chances of somebody I meet on a forum or IRC or something being from nearby is pretty slim.

  10. Had a meet with some people last year. Was pretty fun, actually. As long as they're nice folks, I really don't see the problem...

  16. I've met my share of people online. A good number of them I keep in contact with regularly.
One of my best friends actually moved cross-country to go to school and my local group of friends and I happened to be in the area. He ended up being a really cool guy! We hang out in real life regularly.

  18. Have met a few from the net but turned out to be totally opposite as what they described themselves as. No "a few extra pounds" does not mean 100 lbs. over weight!

  19. Ive met a pretty awesome girl of the internet, it was a great relationship for a few months. Honestly it was a few convos on myspace then a meet up, and then on subsequent meet ups it got a bit more 'interesting' if you know what i mean. Odd thing was she was incredibly petite so in public it looked as if i was toting a child around bah#!

Feedback, Feedback, well i love the blog and more importanly you get 10/10 for your rhyming skills

  21. I'm not sure I could do it. I've looked at the personal section on craigslist before, looking for a few laughs... but I was fucking sad instead. One entry was titled "looking for new best friend" and the only description was "i will wait for you." Seriously, holy shit. I'm not sure if half these people are just terribly unfortunate and piteous or fucking crazy as goddamn dicks.

  22. A guy came to my house to pick up a circular saw I had advertised on Craigslist. He was creepy.

  23. craigslist sales are fucking crazy, the people have looked like goblins, tweakers, adults, average people, indians, asians, but hey, at least I'm still alive to post about it, and I always went with friends to meet up for sales. Just in case we had to annihilate.

  24. I had a "casual encounter" once which lead to us being FWBs. They ended up becoming needy and annoying, though. Figures.

I'd probably do it again maybe. Funner and less nerving to do it at a party or bar though.
